Mr. S. Devaraj, aged 51, married, native of Vilathur village, Paramakudi Taluk, Ramanathapuram District, Tamil Nadu is Educated in B.Sc, B.Ed of Annamalai University, and Tamilnadu. He worked in Tamil Nadu Rural Reconstruction Movement as District coordinator for 12 years. The project was concerned with development of coastal poor community particularly country boat traditional fishermen.
His nature of work was to educate and empower them rights related to their livelihood and development. He was instrumental in starting a trade union by name Ramanathapuram District Fishermen Trade Union (RFTU). He started SPEED in 2005 for developing the poor population through self help groups, bank linkages, income generation activities, training programs, and health camps for women.
Child Programmes and Coastal community Development for Coastal poor women, Mangrove Plantation programme for improving coastal environment, Tree plantation for Tamilnadu bio diversity greening project and Rehabilitation for differently abled. Since 2012 Child care and Protection programme is implementing through Child line India Foundation supported by Ministry of Women and Child development.
